A LITTLE ABOUT MY LIFE

My name is Laura. I am an Italian artist and illustrator living in France, in the Yvelines, near Paris, with my English husband and our son.

MY STUDIES AND ARTISTIC PATH

I studied… well, perhaps a little too much before finding my way back to drawing as an adult. I started drawing again for my son, and then it became something of my own. But if you're wondering where it all began, yes, I've loved drawing since childhood, and that love has never left me.

WHAT DO I ACTUALLY DO NOW?

Art is an infinite process of discovering, and that's why I like to experiment with all sorts of materials. I prefer working with real materials rather than relying on digital techniques. I am currently illustrating a children's book. But I love painting people, landscapes, animals, still lifes and funny things like boats.

MY STYLE

The style issue is an ongoing kind of thing for an artist, always moving and floating. It's like being out at sea.

So, what I can say now is that I especially enjoy discovering the shape of things with a sort of Zen attitude, with that one movement of the hand that connects me with the object I am observing. Colour works in much the same way. I let it come to me rather than chasing after it. A bit weird, perhaps, but we're all a bit weird in our own way, aren't we?
